Pad printing transfers ink from an engraved plate to the cover using a soft silicone pad. Because the pad moulds to the surface, it prints sharply on covers that aren’t perfectly flat, such as cork, bamboo, recycled leather and soft PU. That makes it a strong choice for small logos, fine lines and short slogans.

• As a rule of thumb, choose pad printing for small, fine detail and curved or textured surfaces.
• Choose screen printing for larger areas and bold, solid colours.
• For full-colour artwork, look at digital printing, and for a permanent etched look on cork or bamboo, see laser engraving.
